The expression “honeymoon” comes from a 4000 year old tradition : in Babylonia, for a month after the wedding, the father of the bride offered to his new son-in-law as much mead, a honey-based beer, as he could afford. At the time they were using the lunar calendar thus the expression “honeymoon”. It was believed that mead improved fecundity and the chances to get a baby son.
At the end of the 19th century, the term honeymoon began to refer to the trip married couple do just after the wedding, because the honeymoon trip usually happens during the honeymoon period.

Every year, 2.3 millions of Americans get married and spend a total of $7 billions on honeymoons. In average, the price of a one week honeymoon will be around $3,400.

Another idea for your honeymoon could be Venice and her laguna, declared world heritage city by the Unesco. Founded in 568, this ancient capital will charm you with her romantic atmosphere. Prices can be a bit on the high side, so allow at least $1,500 for 7 nights per person for a good quality hotel and $800 per person for a return flight from New York.
