One of the hardest things to do may be ending a relationship. The longer you’ve been in that relationship for, the more difficulty you’re going to run into when it comes to that awkward time where you feel it must end.
It’s a fact of life that not all relationships are enduring. What people want from a relationship, or life in general, can change with time in the same way their circumstances can.
If you know that you’re in a relationship that you shouldn’t be in, do yourself a favor and end it sooner rather than later. Not only are you wasting your own time, but you’re wasting the other person’s time too.
Of course, it won’t be easy, especially if your partner doesn’t feel the same way you do. Try to give the other person plenty of time to accept the new situation and move on. Once you’re past this difficult part things will start to improve.
You’ve made a difficult choice and should remember that you’ve done it for a reason. Leaving this relationship will enable you to experience the joys of freedom and independence, or a new, more fulfilling, partnership.
When you’re absolutely sure that you want to make a break, take a tip from me and don’t use text messaging, email or even the phone to do it. You might get away with these methods if you’ve only been seeing each other for a short time, but otherwise, they’re not a good idea.
The best way is via a face to face meeting in a public place. You’ll be showing the other person respect and both of you will stay in control of your emotions, thus avoiding any embarrassing scenes. If you try to end the relationship at home, things could drag on and the other person might be reluctant to leave.
This is an uncomfortable thing no matter how you look at it, but it’s just one of those deeds that needs to be done. Be brave, and realize that no matter what happens, this too shall pass.
